I am a firm believer that there is no bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. I love the outdoors and so do most children. 95% of the time if you ask a group of children if they want to go outside they will say YES!
One of my biggest pet peeves as an ECE is when you go to get the children ready to go outside and they children do NOT have appropriate clothes. For example, lets say it rained last night but is a lovely mild day today, you are getting the children ready and you get to the last couple of children, and they have no splash pants and no outdoor foot wear! There is nothing healthier then getting outside and breathing in that fresh air and getting some much needed vitamin D. They children enjoy exploring they outdoor environment with their whole body not just their senses. They need to sit in the grass, leaves, mud to really get a sense of what it is and why its there. They dive in head first and ask questions later. So if your are wondering why little Sally's pants are muddy, its because she played today, she discovered something new and had fun doing it!
