Here It Goes

I am an avid blog reader and an advocate for play and taking safe risks in early childhood, so here are my thoughts, experiments and learning challenges. 
I have always wanted to blog but have never managed to stay up to date or focused on doing it. But early childhood is something I am very passionate about and I hope to make this worth it. Not only for myself but for others out there wondering if they are dealing with the same things, or doing the same things with their children around the world.
So to all those out there working with small children, let us work together to make the world a better place. 
It takes a village to raise a child. 

I work at a Early Years Center ( designated by the government) on Prince Edward Island, Canada.
A few years ago we went through some big changes here in early childhood, and the government moved Kindergarten out of childcare centers and into the school system, we lost a lot of our seasoned educators that year, it was sad to see them go. The government then put in place The Preschool Excellence Initiative, which centers could chose to be a part of and get funding help from the government, with rules and regs to follow on top of the normal rules, as well as use a curriculum framework. Or you could chose to stay a private center. 
The center I work at decided to join the PEI, PEI and it was the best thing we ever did. We always were of the highest standard and we still are today. 
We have infants from 0 all the way up to 4 year olds. 

My passion is working with the 2 year olds. They are so excitable and love everything. They have their challenges but I find they are easier to work with then the older children just for the simple fact is that they think of you as their second parents. They love us and want us to be proud of them and they respond well to love, affection, rules and boundaries. 

Next week I am starting my transition back to the 2 year olds after being on maternity for a year. I am very excited to be getting back and very nervous at the same time. They have been a team unit since September and I am jumping right into the middle of it just in time for the hectic Christmas season.
I am hoping to be able to share some of our seasonal art activities and they layout of our space and what works and doesn't work for them. 
I am part of an educating team of 2. We both enjoy working with the younger age and have high expectations of our little ones. A lot of people have little expectations because they are "young" or "babies" but without expectations the children don't have anything to strive for and that's when behaviours and bad habits appear. 
Lets hope that next week goes well and I will have some amazing things to share with you.
